‘We will keep our flag flying’, vows BA

19 Mar 2010
British Airways took out full-page adverts in national newspapers today in a bid to win public hearts and minds ahead of strike action.

Under the heading ‘We will keep our flag flying’, BA chief executive, Willie Walsh, said: ‘The majority of people who work for British Airways will be doing their utmost to minimise disruption to our customers.

‘We have a significant number of cabin crew who don’t believe in the strike and will continue to work.

‘They have been supported by countless volunteers from across our airline.’

Walsh said his door ‘remains open to Unite’ and thanked the public for their ‘patience and support’.

‘I believe Unite has made the wrong decision and misjudged the mood of our times,’ he said.

The adverts coincided with a second day of negotiations between BA and Unite over strikes, which are due to start tomorrow.

The strike has already cost BA £27m, and more than 100,000 passengers have cancelled their tickets.
